Master Xu Gongwei

Master Xu Gongwei from Nanjing, China was born in 1916. At 17, he began practising Xingyiquan with the late Master Liu An Zhi. From 1939 to 1959 he learned the Chan Family System from the famous Grandmaster Yu Zhensheng.

Master Xu has studied taiji, Xinyi and Bagua with Zhao Yifan and Yang Fuchan who was the student of the famous Sun Lutang.

In 1962, Master Xu learned Chen Style Taijiquan from Chen Zhaokui, the second son of Chen Fake. Chen Fake was the greatest taijiboxer in his time and his form has influenced alsmost all of the Chen Style forms practicesed today.

In the course of his Wushu career in China, Master Xu Gongwei served as coach and judge in for numerous competitions. He was the Chief Judge in 1986 for othe Chen Taiji competition in Nanjing. In 1987 he was the Deputy Chief Judge for the Jiangsu Provincial Competition.

In 1988, Master Xu emigrated to Vancouver and continued to develop Wushu all over Canada. He was the chief judge for the 1995 Manitoba Provincial Championships on March 25.

Master Xu passed away in 2004 in Canada.
